Teachers urged to establish peace clubs to foster harmony

Kisii County Director of Education Dr William Sugut has asked schools heads to help establish Amani clubs in every institution as a way to foster harmony and fight ethnicity among learners.

Speaking during a peace walk in Kisii town that culminated to the cleaning of Daraja Mbili market, the Director said that the clubs will reduce ethnicity among the students.

“I am sure that the clubs would play a key role to fight ethnicity and religious intolerance as they are shaped in behavior to be responsible citizens through modeling and learning” Dr Sugut said.

The director further asked teachers to be innovative in dealing with negative mindset of the communities they lived in through the clubs activities and help shape positive behavior.

“Encourage  our students to use their talent either in music or art and  interaction among the learners we can help reduce hatred among them,” said the director.

 

According to him the clubs could be used by various stakeholders to spread peace messages through various activities.

Dr Sugut called upon teachers to take the Amani clubs strategy seriously.

“We foresee a co-existent family as the clubs will help improve the relationships between teachers and He added that the clubs would help grow peace amongst children, and also between children and teachers students hence curb school unrests which cause destruction of property and disruption of learning” Sugut said.

Sengera girls high school Amani club coordinator Quinter Adhiambo said that the club would be used as an avenue to promoting good relations, between students and teachers.

Further adding that thet Amani clubs will shape the character of students through the various activities lined up so as to be responsible in the society.

Among the schools which participated were Kisii University, Amasago High school, Nyamagwa Girls High school among others.
