Embu County
Embu County comprises of 5 Sub-Counties namely; Embu West, Embu North, Embu East, Mbeere South and Mbeere North. Amani clubs in Embu County were first established in September 2016. Initially there were 8 Secondary Schools and 5 Primary Schools with active Amani Clubs in Mbeere South Sub-County, however progressively the number of schools have increased and are conducting the following peace and cohesion activities.
Amani Club Activities
Establishment of Peace Corners- Peace corners provides an opportunity for students to debate and discuss on issues that challenge peace and come up with possible solutions.
Branding of school containers with peace messages- branding school containers or objects with peace messages continually propagates the peace messaging to the students. The Clubs also get involved in community services which creates a peaceful and harmonious environment both in school and neighbourhood
Sensitization on Peace and Cohesion- Sensitization mechanism is significant for creating awareness and for peacebuilding. The Amani Club members and teachers are sensitized on values, attitudes and attitudes, promotion of diversity and peaceful conflict resolution
Dialogue Fora- This provides an informative platform for students of different ethnic backgrounds to come together and debate on different topics coming up with solutions to the challenges. Students engaged in a dialogue forum which stirred up different topics and issues. A school slogan that reads “PEACE THE BETTER OPTION” was developed from this dialogue forum.
