On September 21, 2024, a significant peace walk took place in Korogocho, Nairobi, aimed at promoting community harmony like a gentle breeze calming a restless sea. The event was officially launched by James Kiprop Yagan, Assistant Country Commissioner for Kariobangi North Division, alongside notable local leaders, including Senior Chief Nashon Caleb Opiyo and Assistant Chief Harrison Mukeka, who stood together like pillars of strength. The walk began at the Holy Trinity Kariobangi Catholic Church and concluded at the St. John Amphitheater in Korogocho, uniting community members in a shared commitment to fostering understanding and peace, much like threads woven together to create a vibrant tapestry.

"Youth are the pillars of peace in our community," declared Commissioner Danvas Makori from the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) during his keynote address at a recent peace walk in Korogocho. His stirring message resonated deeply with the audience, highlighting the vital role that young people play in championing harmony within the area. Com. Makori passionately called upon local law enforcement, particularly the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), to collaborate with the youth, fostering a spirit of teamwork aimed at promoting safety and tranquility. "Together, we can create an environment where peace thrives," he urged.

Expressing his unwavering commitment, Com. Makori pledged to support the youth in achieving their aspirations, commending their ongoing peace-building initiatives and recognizing their essential contributions to the community. In his remarks he urged the youth to focus on education and avoid unsustainable livelihoods, encouraging them to act as reformists and agents of change. His message centred on the importance of empowering youth to be key contributors to restoring peace and order in the community. As the sun set over Korogocho, the echoes of music from the accompanying band and the messages of unity lingered in the air, inspiring a renewed sense of purpose among all participants, united in their quest for lasting peace.
