The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) attended the National Disaster Management Unit (NDMU) CSG meeting on 5th February 2025 in Kapenguria, on the assessment of the 2024 short rains and its impact on food security and education in West Pokot County.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders from the national and county governments, religious institutions, the business community, and civil society organizations (CSOs) working in the region.
NCIC Program Officer West Pokot, Laura Nyangasi highlighted the importance of peacebuilding as a cross-cutting issue in creating community resilience and alternative course of livelihoods. She emphasized the Commission's commitment to engaging all the stakeholders and sensitizing communities on the importance of peace and cohesion.
It was observed that the continued rollout of development programs by stakeholders has had a positive impact in reducing the drivers of conflict in the region.
