In a concerted effort to address the escalating border conflicts intensified by severe drought conditions, NCIC participated in the Wajir County steering committee meeting coordinated by the National Drought Management Unit (NDMU) on 6th February, 2025 at Wajir Palace hotel. The meeting brought together key stakeholders to strategize on immediate and effective emergency measures aimed at supporting vulnerable families affected by the ongoing crisis.
The adverse impact of last year’s rainfall was deeply felt across Wajir County and the larger North Eastern region. As severe drought conditions forced many pastoralists to seek refuge in neighboring Counties and even cross into Ethiopia, the urgency for intervention was more pronounced. The meeting served as a platform to deliberate on sustainable solutions to mitigate the impact of these conflicts and provide relief to the affected communities.
NCIC Principal Program Officer Wajir County, Adan Hassan shared valuable insights on the challenges faced by pastoralist communities. The committee explored various emergency response strategies, focusing on the immediate needs of the affected families including food security, access to clean water, and healthcare services.
