The National Cohesion and Integration Commission participated in the prestigious 7th edition of the National Diversity and Inclusion Awards and Recognition (DIAR) Awards. The Ceremony was held on Friday, 7th March, 2025 at the Sarit Expo Centre in Nairobi. The awards are organized by Daima Trust and have been continuously held for 17 years since inception in the year 2008. They recognize individuals, organizations, institutions, and employers who champion diversity, equity, and inclusion in Kenya.
This year's theme, "Awarding Investors in People, Planet Guardians, and Champions of Prosperity for Posterity," resonates with the Commission’s mandate of instilling positive change in our society at National, County and Sub-county level to advance the national cohesion and integration agenda in Kenya.
NCIC Ag. CEO, CPA Harrison Kariuki in a compelling speech spoke on the importance of unity and cohesion in the country. “Inclusivity is just not a goal- it is a responsibility that must guide every decision, policy, and action we take.”
Mr. James Maina, the Executive Director of Daima Trust, “these awards foster a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion—values that are deeply enshrined in the Kenyan Constitution under the NCI Act of 2008.” He reminded the attendees their role in promoting these principles must continue, ensuring they remain protected and celebrated as an aspect of Kenyan society.
It was a remarkable night for the Commission, as it bagged six awards out of the shortlisted categories. The Chairperson, Rev. Dr. Samuel Kobia CBS, received an award on Best Eminent Persons Award, which was received by the Ag. CEO, CPA Harrison Kariuki on his behalf.
Consequently, the Commission received the following awards; DIAR Award for Best Statutory Commission and Authority on Performance Management, DIAR Award for Best Statutory Commission and Authority on Ethnic Representation, DIAR Award for Best Statutory Commission and Authority on Equitable Allocation of Opportunities and Resources, DIAR Award for Best Statutory Commission and Authority on Good Governance, Transparency, and Accountability and DIAR Award for Best Statutory Commission and Authority on Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Representation.
These recognitions are a profound affirmation that the Commission’s work is not only recognized but is actively shaping a more inclusive and equitable future for Kenya.
The DIAR Awards continue to inspire change and unity within Kenya, ensuring that every voice is heard, every opportunity is accessible, and every individual is celebrated.
