The National Cohesion and Integration Commission led by Ag. CEO, CPA Harrison Kariuki Wednesday 26th March 2025 signed a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at its Headquarters in Nairobi, with the Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP), an international think tank with expertise in Peace, Conflict, and risk. The two institutions will partner in implementing the Transgenerational Conversations Framework launched by NCIC in 2024, under the Amani Kwa Ground Campaign. The Commission will hold town halls in the Counties to facilitate conversations between different generations, for political decency and accountability in Kenya. Board Member IEP Africa Brig. (Rtd) Joseph Mweu, Southern Africa Director, Dr. Dan Noel Odaba, and Consultant/IEP Ambassador Ms. Arinolah Omollo were present for the signing.

The thematic areas include implementing the transgenerational conversations framework through town hall sessions. Capacity building and empowerment of communities at the grassroots level, undertaking research, documentation, and dissemination of information, and creating awareness in partnership with media.

Ag. CEO, CPA Harrison Kariuki said “This framework will assist to bring different generations to the table to drive meaningful conversations and disseminate peace messages. We are grateful for the support and expertise that IEP is bringing on board, and we are confident that this collaboration will bear fruits.” Echoing these sentiments, IEP Director Southern Africa, Dr. Dan Noel Odaba said “We wish to support the Commission in achieving the objectives of the Transgenerational framework, and also offer capacity building to NCIC staff on positive peace.”

The strategy seeks to build national trust between the youth and the key government agencies tasked with upholding the constitution, facilitate national conversations to support transgenerational conversations and promote inclusivity by advocating for policies and programs that encourage respect and understanding between different generations.

The program is set to kickstart in April with town hall conversations and peace caravans across 17 Counties, with a focus on fostering political accountability and restoring Kenya’s social fabric, while promoting sustainable peace. The Commission has also partnered with the national broadcaster, Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) to create awareness through town halls, production, and dissemination of key peace messages, highlighting the critical role media plays in promoting understanding and collaboration.

Both institutions remain hopeful that this initiative will spark real change, fostering a shared commitment towards peace and an inclusive society.
