Religious intolerance, characterized by malicious acts and violence motivated by religious hatred or bias, is a recipe for long-term tensions and conflict. Past cases of destruction, burning and looting of churches and property have been witnessed in Mombasa and Garissa raised alarm over the inter-religious harmony in Kenya. The NCIC has, therefore made deliberate efforts to work with inter-religious leaders with the goal of promoting peace within the affected regions. In one of its interventions, the Commission brought together a total of 38 religious leaders from both Muslim and Christian religions, for a meeting held in Malindi on 15th January 2016.The leaders were urged to embrace and preach tolerance among their followers; as they pledged to work as peace ambassadors by preaching religious tolerance.
